On Monday. February 8 the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece co-hosted the Third Annual Thessaloniki Think Tanks and Civil Society Forum, "Now More Than Ever: Post-crisis civil societies in action," featuring representatives of local, national, and international civil society organizations. 

The event was moderated by Anna Damaskou, Chair of the Board of Transparency International Greece, and David Wisner, Executive Director of the Dukakis Center, and featured Petros Mastakas (UNHCR), Epaminondas Farmakis (HumanRights360), Dimitris Diamantis (WEF Global Shapers Hub Thessaloniki), Epaminondas Christofilopoulos (UNESCO Chair in Futures Research / Millennium Project), Georgios Siakas (Public Opinion Research Unit, University of Macedonia Research Institute), Nikos Zaharis (South-East European Research Centre), and Dimitris Savvaidis and Asterios Gousios (AddArt).

This year’s Forum took place again in the context of the annual series of “Why Think Tanks Matter” forums globally, in collaboration with the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania. Three discussion panels were followed by the virtual premiere of a new documentary film, "Now More Than Ever: The Story of the Dukakis Center," produced for the Dukakis Center by AddArt.

In May 2019 the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece co-hosted the first Thessaloniki Forum at Public Syntagmatos in Athens, with colleagues from think tanks and NGOS working throughout Greece. The keynote speaker of the 2019 Forum was James McGann, Director of the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program at the Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania. The 2020 Civil Society Forum was held in the presence of Mayor Zervas at the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and featured colleagues active in local think tanks, research institutes, NGOs, and other civil society organizations.

ACT was a wonderful blend of talent, hard work and fun

Ilda Zhulali graduated with Honors from ACT in 2001 with a B.A. Degree in History and International Relations, with concentration in Foreign Affairs. She notes that the academic and student experiences that ACT provided left an important impression on her life, encouraging her to pursue a career as a diplomat.

Since 2017, Ms. Zhulali has served as Advisor for European Integration for the President of the Republic of Albania, and has emerged as a strong advocate for democratic institutions, respect for individual rights, the rule of law and a more prosperous economy. In her alumni interview she recalls some of her childhood memories, student experiences, and personal beliefs that empowered her as a professional and as a woman to bring a positive change in her country.

How did you develop an interest in History, International Relations, Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs? What fueled your aspirations to follow a career in this field?

It really came to me as a natural choice, mostly by circumstances and curiosity.

During communism, my father sat almost every evening next to a small radio to secretly listen to “The Voice of America”. When old enough, my sister and I were also allowed to listen to the program in Albanian language, after promising not to tell a living soul. I was mesmerized by the whole “procession”. This was the sparkle which, with time, evolved into a magnetic attraction for politics and foreign affairs.

By the time I finished high school, my country, Albania, was in its early years of transition from the brutal isolationist dictatorship to a new democracy, building its pathway among the free nations. I was very young to genuinely understand what this drastic change really meant, but I was very curious to explore and find out what we had missed from the world. A major in IR would certainly satisfy this interest of mine.

Upon my return home, the Albanian diplomatic service was reforming itself seeking to employ young people with a new outlook on global affairs, free of past ideology and parochialism, who would contribute to boosting Albania’s perspective towards what was then called “western values”. In short, an opportunity not to be missed.

Looking back, I didn’t really know what experiences lied ahead of me, but I certainly made the right choice. Loving my experience first at ACT and later at the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led from one thing to another. I built a solid career, contributed to historical processes for my country as a policy maker, and became part of a great network of talented professionals and friends from different backgrounds and nationalities.

You graduated with Honors from ACT in 2001 majoring in “History and International Relations, with concentration in Foreign Affairs". How did your studies at ACT prepare you for your professional life?

ACT was a wonderful blend of talent, hard work and fun, with excellent mentors, lecturers and a great mix of student body, who all left an important impression in my life.

I am a big fan of the American system of education. I feel it is by far the best, with a perfect balance of developing a solid academic background, encouraging individual critical thinking and training for real life challenges through active engagement.

This equilibrium made my transition from ACT to work very easy to cope with.

The extra-curricular activities were an absolute asset as well. I still remember our meetings with then the US Ambassador to Greece Nicholas Burns, such an impressive speaker and personality. I cherish the experience in the Model United Nations simulations, including the one we first organized at ACT led by the ever enthusiastic Dr. Wisner. I was so inspired by our project with the Roma children and the relationship we all developed thereafter. And I could go on and on…

What do you remember fondly from the years at ACT and Thessaloniki and/or Greece?

I am still nostalgic of my time both at ACT and Thessaloniki, a city very dear to my heart. I always say that Thessaloniki is the best city for student life. It’s beautiful in every season, big enough not to ever be bored, and small enough not to feel lost.

But the best memory of all is the life friends I made. Kostas, Maria, Victoria, Thanasis, Alexandra, and so many others who made me feel at home.

Churchill once said that “the Balkans produce more history than they can consume”, and are loaded with prejudice and hard feelings against each-other. But my time at ACT and in Thessaloniki was a walk in the park, where I always felt most welcomed and fully integrated as an Albanian. I am very happy that more and more Albanian students have chosen ACT to pursue their studies since my time, when we were just a few.

How would you describe your priorities and challenges as advisor of European Integration to the President of Albania?

Being a policy advisor to the President of the Republic is a privilege that comes with a lot of responsibilities and challenges. I have to always be well-informed, sober in my analysis, creative in providing solutions, and effective in strategic relationships with stakeholders.

Albania is the most Euro-enthusiastic country in the region, and maybe even in Europe, with more than 98% of its people in favor of EU integration. This is the guiding star in my daily work.  

EU integration is a very challenging process which will transform my country fundamentally. I have lived through many of these changes, but more should be done to ensure fully functioning democratic institutions, respect for individual rights and freedoms, rule of law and a more prosperous economy. I am sure that once we commence accession negotiations, progress will be both faster and more sustainable.

In recent years we see more women in politics. Do women today have equal opportunities to advance in the fields of diplomacy and politics or do they still have many “glass ceilings” to break? What piece of advice would you give to a young girl who wishes to pursue a career in diplomacy?

When I joined the MFA there were very few women diplomats, of whom only two Ambassadors and none in other leading positions. In 20 years this ratio completely changed, once increasingly more women were recruited in the system.

For sure the classical Balkan man will not leave an empty seat for the woman to sit. But as a great champion of women’s right, Eleanor Roosevelt once wisely advised, “Above all, every woman in political life needs to develop a skin as tough as rhinoceros hide”.

Educated young women undoubtedly need to develop a less tough skin these days, but should be persistent in nurturing their talent and ambitions. I will use the captivating words of the very young poet Amanda Gorman as an advice to all women, “For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it”.

Ilda ZHULALI was appointed as Advisor for European Integration of the President of the Republic of Albania in September 2017.

Earlier she held the position of Political Advisor of the President of the Republic, during April 2014 – July 2017. Mrs. Zhulali has broad experience in foreign affairs, and her area of expertise includes European integration and the Western Balkans region. During her career, she has represented Albania in various high level meetings and conferences. Upon her return to Albania in 2001, she worked as a career diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holding different positions as expert in regional affairs, Director and Director General for European Affairs, until October 2013.

Ilda Zhulali graduated with Honors from the American College of Thessaloniki in 2001, majoring in “History and International Relations, with concentration in Foreign Affairs”. She was the recipient of two academic awards and full scholarship for her years of study.

She was the recipient of 2003-2004 Chevening Albania Scholarship, and completed with merit her “Postgraduate Studies in Diplomacy” from the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom.

In September 1999, a few short months away from a new millenium, Michael Dukakis, former Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, inaugurated an academic center bearing his good name with a speech entitled “Surprise! Now is a Great Time for Public Service.” This might well have been 1979, or 2019, moments in history globally at which government by the people seemed besieged by implacable foes and irreversible decline. What better time to involve oneself in civil society, Dukakis asserted, to take ownership of our common woes and step up to meet the challenge of a healthy, democratic future.

We find ourselves at a rather different sort of symbolic moment in time, when the challenge has seemingly been met, the crisis less acute. But this is not a time to relax one’s guard, to sit back and wait for the next calamity before shaking off a collective slumber and returning to the fray. Now more than ever, Governor Dukakis might riposte, this is the time to follow through on the promise of our recent triumphs, to remain on the vanguard of civic vigilance, to follow through on the promise of better times.

To mark the Third Annual Thessaloniki Think Tanks and Civil Society Forum, the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece will host friends and colleagues for a special discussion on the merits of and continued challenges facing adherents of the public service ethos which animates all effective civil society. The event will be organized in collaboration with the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania, part of the annual series of "Why Think Tanks Matter" forums worldwide.

The gathering will coincide with the premiere of a new short documentary on the Dukakis Center produced by a local non-profit, AddArt, aptly entitled “Now More Than Ever.”

“My father was for the little guy.” This claim, worn like a badge, is a core element in the lore surrounding the late Paul Sarbanes, the former US Senator from Maryland.

In an hour-long discussion ostensibly full of stock pledges John Sarbanes, the son, currently Congressman from Maryland, pierced the hackneyed with the sincerity that must run deep in the Sarbanes gene. Rarely has such a thoughtful and articulate public figure addressed a public audience in the 20+ years of the Dukakis Center.

Congressman Sarbanes was on hand to share his impressions of the 2020 US General Election -- in which he was re-elected to serve an eighth term in the US House of Representatives -- and to take stock of this critical moment in American political history. The evening was crowned with a moving tribute to the Congressman’s father, Paul, long a friend and colleague of the our Center’s namesake, Michael Dukakis.

Beginning with another tribute, to Martin Luther King, Congressman Sarbanes proceeded to laud the resilience of the institutions of American democracy and to lay out reasons to be guardedly optimistic, despite the unprecedented drama of the election campaign and post-election transition. Like his father an innate reformer and pragmatist, the Congressmen shared the principles which animate HR 1, the “For the People Act,” which he introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives in January 2019.

When asked to share more intimate reflections on his father’s legacy, Congressman Sarbanes painted a portrait of a man of supreme integrity, who would gladly share credit for a successful idea if such would help get the job done. This man of the people, this champion of the little guy, was possessed of a clear sense of the inherent dignity of his constituents, a great public servant who happily drew his inspiration from his Hellenic roots.

This was the fourth and final online event in a series dedicated to the 2020 US General Election.

On the occasion of the webinar “Peaceful Transfer of Power in the US”, hosted by the Dukakis Center at ACT, we had the opportunity to share views with US Congressman John Sarbanes, a prominent member of the Greek American diaspora. 

John Sarbanes has represented Maryland’s 3^rd Congressional District in the US House of Representatives since 2007. A Democrat like his father Paul, Congressman Sarbanes was educated at Princeton and Harvard Law School and has worked in private practice and in public service since graduating in 1989. He serves currently on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Oversight and Reform and is a member of several congressional caucuses. Following in his father’s footsteps, he has emerged as a solid player on the American political scene, having recently been re-elected to his eight-term in the House of Representatives. Both Sarbanes, father and son, have been firm friends of Greece in Washington, DC, and active supporters of ACT, Anatolia College, and the Dukakis Center.

Mr. Sarbanes stressed the importance of expanding educational opportunities that empower students and benefit society, such as the CTY Greece program, of which he has been a keen supporter. He also emphasized the role that his Greek heritage played in helping him establish his political creed and his perception of civic responsibility. 

In September 2013 you spoke at an event at the Johns Hopkins University when Niarchos Foundation, JHU, and Anatolia College launched the Center for Talented Youth in Greece. How can a country like Greece benefit from programs that promote the education of talented students? More generally, what do you believe to be the important components of education at all levels to meet the challenges of the future?

Expanding educational opportunities and providing students with empowering learning experiences can yield tremendous benefits for our economy and our society – in Greece, in the United States, and around the world. Programs like CTY Greece, which not only help enhance the ability of Greece’s best and brightest students to receive a world-class education but also build strong cultural ties between our two nations, are critical tools in our ongoing work to improve the quality of education around the world and build a more equitable and prosperous future for the next generation.

What role did your Greek heritage play in establishing your political beliefs and your thoughts on civic responsibility?

As a Greek American, I take special pride in the democratic traditions that we trace back to the ancient Greeks. That commitment to democracy – to the government of, by, and for the people – has informed and inspired my longstanding effort to advance transformational anti-corruption and clean election reforms in the U.S. Congress with H.R. 1, the For the People Act. This comprehensive package would protect the right to vote, ensure the integrity of American elections, hold elected officials accountable, end the era of big, dark, special money in our politics and build a more equitable, inclusive, and resilient democracy.

On a more personal note, when my grandmother and grandfather left Greece to immigrate to America more than a century ago, they brought with them a deep and lasting commitment to democratic values, which fueled their determination to work hard and succeed. Their convictions – which made a strong impression on me as a child – were passed on to my father, and in turn, passed on to me. Those convictions guide and inform my work in Congress, where I fight tirelessly for Maryland families and to help make life better for all Americans.

What would be your advice to a young person who wishes to pursue a career in politics or public service?  

As a first step, I would encourage young people interested in public service to volunteer in their local communities. If you find purpose and passion in that important work, if you enjoy helping fellow citizens and if you find meaningful ways to make a positive difference in your community, then you will build the necessary skills and competencies to thrive in a public service role.

Before I ran to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, I spent many years in the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), working to make Maryland’s public school system one of the best in the nation. I also worked with public interest organizations in Maryland, like the Public Justice Center (PJC), where I had the opportunity to engage in several projects to protect consumers, provide decent public housing and ensure fair treatment in the workplace. Those experiences in my community not only strengthened my commitment to public service and inspired me to run for office, but also helped me fine-tune the knowledge and tools that I would ultimately lean on to represent Marylanders effectively in Congress.

“Elektronio Handcrafted Vehicles”, an award-winning Greek startup founded in Thessaloniki, makes premium electric bicycles with special engineering and geometric design to offer clean mobile tech solutions in compliance with the European Directive for electric bicycles. 

The company started its journey in 2015 launching Play, a different bicycle solution for urban mobility with an emphasis on personalization. The team members participated in the VentureGarden training program for young entrepreneurs offered by ACT and supported by The Hellenic Initiative (THI) as well as the John & Mary Pappajohn Business Plan Competition Plan organized by ACT winning one of the cash prizes.

This afforded the company many new business opportunities and five years later, Elektronio has emerged as a complete electric mobility brand and has expanded its product offerings with six more models for a variety of applications, including electric bicycles for commuting, cargo electric bicycles, an electric skate, and other proposals of clean mobility technology.  

This past year 2020 ended on a high note for the start-up winning the $10,000 prize at the first annual Venture Impact Awards (VIA) launched by THI and held online on December 17, 2020. The event offered $250,000 in cash prizes to young enterprises that combine commercial success, job creation, and philanthropic support helping people on the ground in Greece. The awards were established by THI with the generous support of the Helidoni Foundation and the Charles C. Condes Trust.

Elektronio is currently completing another groundbreaking proposal for a tandem electric bike that will offer an unprecedented riding experience.

The collaborative project DermaSense by the Computer Science Department at ACT, the Medical Physics Lab at the AUTH Medical School, and the 2nd Dermatology Clinic of the Papageorgiou Hospital received the Best Paper Award at the 5th International Workshop for Microsystems on 15/12/2021.

The distinction was awarded during the one-day online conference organized by the Industrial Engineering and Management Department of the International Hellenic University.

DermaSense is a novel electrical impedance spectroscopy scanner featuring statistical and machine learning classification to support the medical diagnosis of early-stage melanoma cancer. The research team designed, built, and tested biomedical engineering hardware and software, as well as mathematical and AI algorithms, to provide early warning for different forms of skin cancer using Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy.

The project was developed by Sotiria Gilou from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the ACT Research and Development team consisted of Christos Dimitrousis, Alexandros Zogkas, Prof. Panos Bamidis, and Assistant Professor in Computer Science Dr. Alexandros Astaras who steers the project.

Furthermore, the team has successfully obtained 171 sets of measurements from 25 human subjects, mainly on clear patches of skin, suspected malignant nevi, and 5 measurements on verified melanoma cases. Based on the measurements of clear patches of skin and suspicious melanoma, the ACT team has developed an Artificial Neural Network that performs a binary classification (clear patch of skin vs nevi) which at this point in development has demonstrated 77.4% accuracy, 94.7% sensitivity, 50% specificity and an F1 score of 83.7%, based on an initial pilot study dataset.

The project used Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms developed by ACT Computer Science graduate Christos Dimitrousis under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Astaras.

Congratulations to the DermaSense research and development team, many thanks for their contribution to Professor Siountas and Dr. Papanastasiou from the Medical Physics Laboratory (Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) who supervise Ms. Gilou on her Ph.D. project, the Computer Science Department at the American College of Thessaloniki, as well as Dermatologists Prof. Betty Lazaridou, Dr. Valantis Korfitis and Dr. Christina Kemanetzi who support the development of the DermaSense system with clinical data and testing at the 2^nd Dermatology Clinic of the Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki.

Ο Γιάννης Κρασσάς είναι επίκουρος καθηγητής χρηματοοικονομικών/οικονομικών στο Business Division του ACT - The American College of Thessaloniki. Έχει διδακτορικό στα Χρηματοοικονομικά από το University of Exeter στην Μ. Βρετανία. Η υιοθέτηση του ηλεκτρονικού επιχειρείν και η δημιουργία ηλεκτρονικών καταστημάτων (e-Shops) για τις περισσότερες επιχειρήσεις έχει καταστεί επιτακτική ανάγκη. Η διαθέσιμη τεχνολογία, με τη σειρά της, έχει επιτρέψει την εύκολη και οικονομική ανάπτυξη ενός e-Shop.

Ωστόσο, έρευνες καταδεικνύουν ότι το 80% των e-Shops αποτυγχάνει και κάποιοι από τους λόγους αποτυχίας σχετίζονται με τη διαχείριση του e-Shop σε όλες τις φάσεις ανάπτυξης του. Σε ποιους απευθύνεται

Το σεμινάριο απευθύνεται σε κάθε άτομο που ενδιαφέρεται να ξεκινήσει επιχειρηματική δραστηριότητα μέσω του διαδικτύου δημιουργώντας το δικό του e-Shop χωρίς να έχει γνώσεις προγραμματισμού. Απευθύνεται σε επιχειρηματίες/στελέχη που έχουν ή θα αποκτήσουν ένα e-shop και επιθυμούν να έχουν τις απαραίτητες δεξιότητες ώστε να το διαχειρίζονται, να αντιλαμβάνονται έννοιες του ηλεκτρονικού επιχειρείν, να συντονίζουν, αξιολογούν τους συνεργάτες τους, εξοικονομώντας πόρους. Επίσης απευθύνεται σε όποιον επιθυμεί να μάθει να διαχειρίζεται το διάσημο σύστημα WooCommerce, μια δεξιότητα που ζητείται ιδιαίτερα σε αγγελίες εργασιών για διαχειριστές ηλεκτρονικών καταστημάτων. Οι συμμετέχοντες δεν απαιτείται να έχουν προηγούμενη γνώση του WordPress/WooCommerce.

Οι συμμετέχοντες που θα παρακολουθήσουν το σεμινάριο αυτό θα αποκτήσουν μια σφαιρική γνώση για την ανάπτυξη και διαχείριση ηλεκτρονικών καταστημάτων και τα βήματα που απαιτούνται για την δημιουργία ενός βιώσιμου e-Shop. Μεταξύ αυτών θα μάθουν τη δημιουργία ενός e-Shop με το σύστημα Shopify, τη διαχείριση του WooCommerce, τα προβλήματα που μπορεί να προκύψουν και τρόπους αντιμετώπισης.

Ανάλυση προδιαγραφών για τη δημιουργία ενός e-Shop (3 ώρες)

Εισαγωγή στο ηλεκτρονικό εμπόριο (στατιστικά και τάσεις). Καινοτόμα επιχειρηματικά μοντέλα και το εργαλείο Business Model Canvas. Βήματα δημιουργίας ενός e-Shop (Domain name & Φιλοξενία, Συστήματα διαχείρισης και δημιουργίας e-Shop, Layout και design, λειτουργικά χαρακτηριστικά e-shop).

Φτιάχνω το δικό μου e-Shop με Shopify (3 ώρες)

Πώς γίνεται η χρήση του εργαλείου Shopify (Software as a service) για την ανάπτυξη ενός ηλεκτρονικού καταστήματος. Πλεονεκτήματα και μειονεκτήματα. Δημιουργία και διαχείριση e-Shop με το shopify. Επιλογές επέκτασης και ρυθμίσεις. Το μοντέλο Dropshipping.

Το σύστημα διαχείρισης περιεχομένου WordPress και εισαγωγή στο WooCommerce για κατασκευή e-Shop (3 ώρες)

Αναλυτική παρουσίαση του συστήματος διαχείρισης περιεχομένου WordPress και του πρόσθετου WooCommerce για κατασκευή ηλεκτρονικού καταστήματος. Ρυθμίσεις και παραμετροποιήσεις.

Επέκταση της λειτουργίας του ηλεκτρονικού καταστήματος WooCommerce (ενδεικτικές λειτουργίες: Σύστημα μαζικής εισαγωγής προϊόντων, σύστημα υπολογισμού μεταφορικών, σύστημα πληρωμών με χρήση καρτών, σύστημα ανταμοιβής πιστών πελατών). Τεχνικές προδιαγραφές για συμβατότητα με τον κανονισμό προστασίας προσωπικών δεδομένων GDPR.

Analytics και μέτρηση αποτελεσματικότητας (3 ώρες)

Παρουσίαση του εργαλείου Google Analytics για την παρακολούθηση των στατιστικών επισκεψιμότητας με έμφαση στην αξιολόγηση της αποτελεσματικότητας ενός e-Shop. Επεξήγηση των βασικών στατιστικών στοιχείων και πρακτικά παραδείγματα των σημαντικών αναφορών που πρέπει να κοιτάει ένας διαχειριστής e-Shop.

Προβλήματα στη λειτουργία του WooCommerce και τρόποι αντιμετώπισης (1 ώρα)

Παρουσίαση συχνών τεχνικών προβλημάτων κατα τη λειτουργία και επέκταση ενός ηλεκτρονικού καταστήματος και τρόποι πρόληψης / αντιμετώπισης.

Extra workshop: Μετά την κατασκευή του e-Shop τι; (3 ώρες)

Τα βήματα της επιτυχίας και διασύνδεση του e-Shop με marketplaces, διασύνδεση με σύστημα τμηματοποίησης αγοράς και τεχνικές προώθησης ηλεκτρονικού καταστήματος.

Χρήστος Ζιάκης | IT entrepreneur - Founder, imarketing.gr

Ο Δρ. Χρήστος Ζιάκης είναι απόφοιτος της Εφαρμοσμένης Πληροφορικής και του ΜΠΣ της Εφαρμοσμένης Πληροφορικής του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας, με εξειδίκευση στο ηλεκτρονικό επιχειρείν και τη βελτιστοποίηση για μηχανές αναζήτησης. Τον Ιανουάριο του 2019 αναγορεύτηκε Διδάκτορας της Σχολής Επιστημών Πληροφορίας του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας για τη θέση του περί οικοσυστημάτων νεοφυούς επιχειρηματικότητας και του μοντέλου ανάπτυξης του τετραπλού έλικα. Ασχολείται από το 2003 επαγγελματικά με το διαδίκτυο, τη νεανική επιχειρηματικότητα και την καινοτομία. Αρχικά ως προγραμματιστής και υπεύθυνος τμήματος πληροφορικής σε εταιρίες πληροφορικής και από το 2009 ως ιδρυτής της εταιρίας imarketing.gr, η οποία παρέχει εξειδικευμένες υπηρεσίες ηλεκτρονικού επιχειρείν και digital marketing. Συμμετείχε στη διαχείριση και ανάπτυξη περισσότερων από 200 έργων πληροφορικής, μεταξύ αυτών το ForeignAffairs.gr. Επιπλέον είναι συνιδρυτής της startup επιχείρησης QRshop.gr και ιδρυτής της Hoteligence, μιας εταιρίας η οποία παρέχει εξειδικευμένες λύσεις στο χώρο του e- tourism και μεταξύ άλλων διαχειρίζεται το portal HalkidikiTravel.com. Επιπρόσθετα είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος και CTO του cluster επιχειρήσεων CRECOS. Ως εισηγητής σε θέματα Digital Marketing, συμμετέχει σε εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα που διοργανώνονται από δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς φορείς. Ορέστης Κουράκης | Επαγγελματίας Φωτογράφος

Ο Ορέστης Κουράκης είναι επαγγελματίας φωτογράφος, εξειδικευμένος στον τομέα της Υπολογιστικής Αρχαιολογικής Φωτογραφίας. Υποψήφιος διδάκτωρ στο Εθνικό και Καποδιστριακό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών μελετώντας τεχνικές ταυτοποίησης χρωστικών σε αρχαία αντικείμενα, υπότροφος ερευνητής στο Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο Ελλάδος και αριστούχος απόφοιτος του μεταπτυχιακού φωτογραφίας του Savannah College of Art and Design (ΗΠΑ). Συνεργάτης μουσείων και αρχαιολογικών φορέων διεθνώς και υπότροφος Fulbright καλλιτεχνών (2012) στο πανεπιστήμιο Columbia (Νέα Υόρκη) ως επισκέπτης ερευνητής, παρουσιάζοντας διεθνώς τη δημιουργία μιας διαδραστικής διαδικτυακής πλατφόρμας προβολής και μελέτης αρχαιολογικών αντικειμένων. Επιλέχθηκε από το Μουσείο του Λούβρου (Παρίσι) ως αποκλειστικός φωτογράφος της έκθεσης «Αρχαία Μακεδονία, το βασίλειο του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου» (2011). Έχει δώσει σεμινάρια στα πανεπιστήμια Harvard, Columbia, Stevens Institute of Technology και στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Γρανάδας και σειρά διαλέξεων σε Ευρώπη και ΗΠΑ στην αρχαιολογική φωτογραφία. Τέλος, έχει παρουσιάσει την καλλιτεχνική του δουλειά σε περισσότερες από 30 εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό.

Anatolia College is part of the BASKI (Basketball for life skills) Consortium which envisions to develop a training program for basketball coaches, sports educators, sports, and education decision-makers on how to promote basketball among primary school students as a medium of life skills development.

On December 21, 2020, the BASKI consortium had its second transnational partner meeting (in virtual form) and discussed the deliverables of the project such as transnational report, training modules developed, online platform, and policy recommendations. 

Dr. Maria Kyriakidou and Mr. Stepan Partemian work on the program and are responsible for the Greek national report, the transnational report as well as for the training module on the skill ‘Teamwork’.
