Dukakis Center hosts Civil Society Forum, Premieres Documentary Film

On Monday. February 8 the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece co-hosted the Third Annual Thessaloniki Think Tanks and Civil Society Forum, "Now More Than Ever: Post-crisis civil societies in action," featuring representatives of local, national, and international civil society organizations. 

The event was moderated by Anna Damaskou, Chair of the Board of Transparency International Greece, and David Wisner, Executive Director of the Dukakis Center, and featured Petros Mastakas (UNHCR), Epaminondas Farmakis (HumanRights360), Dimitris Diamantis (WEF Global Shapers Hub Thessaloniki), Epaminondas Christofilopoulos (UNESCO Chair in Futures Research / Millennium Project), Georgios Siakas (Public Opinion Research Unit, University of Macedonia Research Institute), Nikos Zaharis (South-East European Research Centre), and Dimitris Savvaidis and Asterios Gousios (AddArt).

This year’s Forum took place again in the context of the annual series of “Why Think Tanks Matter” forums globally, in collaboration with the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania. Three discussion panels were followed by the virtual premiere of a new documentary film, "Now More Than Ever: The Story of the Dukakis Center," produced for the Dukakis Center by AddArt.

In May 2019 the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece co-hosted the first Thessaloniki Forum at Public Syntagmatos in Athens, with colleagues from think tanks and NGOS working throughout Greece. The keynote speaker of the 2019 Forum was James McGann, Director of the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program at the Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania. The 2020 Civil Society Forum was held in the presence of Mayor Zervas at the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and featured colleagues active in local think tanks, research institutes, NGOs, and other civil society organizations.
