Elena returned to the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT) nearly 20 years into her professional career, pursuing an MSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management and graduating in 2023. During the COVID-19 period, she took the opportunity to reflect on her professional journey and, encouraged by close friends and professional companions, chose to return to an academic environment reaffirming her belief in continuous learning, curiosity, and meaningful connections.
Today, she serves as General Manager at Hyatt, bringing together her extensive industry experience and passion for hospitality leadership.
The best memory I have of ACT…
Rediscovering the joy of being intellectually challenged, this time grounded in experience and a deeper understanding of practice.
My favorite professor was…
All of them were highly qualified and deeply knowledgeable in their fields. I particularly enjoyed the Strategic Management course, which helped me see my experience through a more structured and strategic lens.
My favorite spot on campus…
Although part of my program took place online during COVID, the Bissell Library was my favorite spot — full of energy, focus, and inspiration.
ACT helped me to…
structure my experience more strategically and sharpen my way of thinking as a leader.
The elements that characterize the identity of ACT graduates are…
integrity, mutual respect, and a strong sense of connection — being part of a diverse academic community where networking, acceptance, and continuous growth truly matter.
For me, ACT is…
a diverse, purpose-driven academic environment that helps you grow professionally and personally, while developing deeper listening and awareness.
The best part of my job is…
listening to the needs of both my team and our guests, and creating environments where people feel safe, valued, and genuinely happy.
I consider this an important moment in my professional journey…
Leading through uncertainty and change, where empathy, communication, and trust became my strongest tools.
In the future, I want to…
continue learning and evolving, recognizing that knowledge and well - being together are key drivers of meaningful, sustainable growth.
