NEW
ADVANCED TEFL METHODOLOGY PROGRAM Starting this spring, ACT is offering an advanced TEFL teacher training program. The program is aimed at teachers with some classroom experience who wish to enhance their teaching effectiveness as well as those teachers who seek practical experience and new ideas for creative English language teaching. Following on the Introductory TEFL program which ACT has been offering successfully for the past three years, the new advanced methodology program will enable participants to acquire a deeper understanding of both the theory and practice of teaching English as a foreign language. Building on a prior knowledge of the standard components of an introductory TEFL course such as developing lesson plans, teaching language skills, managing a classroom etc, the advanced program will cover more specialized areas of the field such as educational technology, teaching language through literature, productive and receptive skills, testing and evaluation, and other field-related modules. In addition, the program will include an observational and guided classroom teaching practicum for hands-on experience to complement classroom instruction. This is made possible due to the fact that ACT is the only institution that can offer its program participants the experience to do practica in actual English classes at various educational levels (Anatolia Elementary and Anatolia College). Taught by qualified professionals who are also trained active language teachers, the program offers its participants access to world-class research facilities at the Bissell Library and use of an updated methodological resource center. For more information, visit www.act.edu or call admissions at 2310 398.239. |
GUEST SPEAKER IN THE MBA ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR CLASS Mr. Jack Florentin, President and CEO of Sarah Lawrence S.A. and a trustee of Anatolia who is currently serving as Chair of the ACT Governance Committee, was the guest speaker in the MBA Organizational Behavior class on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 where he addressed the issue of decision-making. Mr. Florentin first distinguished between routine decisions, which are easier to make, and strategic decisions, considered an arduous task. Mr. Florentin used his own company as an example and asked for feedback on whether his company should open a new store in Athens. Going through the four different scenarios presented, he claimed that, in making projections, business people should not discount the element of ‘luck.’ Contrary to the tendency to always attribute favorable results only to a company’s capabilities and skills, Mr. Florentin claimed that, because companies take risks and make decisions in uncertain environments, favorable or unfavorable results, however linked to a careful decision- making process, are also explained in terms of contextual factors, including ‘coincidence.’ |
