Non-State universities. Why
not? by Haridimos Tsoukas
The statist ideology, embedded in the Greek mentality for ages, entices many to believe that the state monopoly of scientific knowledge is self-evident. One of the arguments put forward, by those advocating statism, deals with human nature, and in particular what motivates a would be founder of a non-state non-profit (NSNP) university. Their line of thought depends entirely on this mythical stereotype of a capitalist investor whose only concern, in founding a NSNP university, is how much profit... (read more) |

The trial ended at the beginning of May but, based on the enthusiastic response from our students and faculty we decided to keep TableBase. They are easy to use and the “collection” is updated frequently. So, sometime in the very near future, we will add ebrary’s “Computers and IT Collection”... (read more) |
The librarians like to talk about how much is available through ACT’s online databases and they mention journal titles in the thousands! Thousands? Really? Is that the number of issues or the number of different titles (with however many hundreds of issues of each)? EBSCO’s A to Z service keeps track and, when we last looked (May 2006), it counted 16,781 Unique Resources. A “resource” may be a newspaper rather than a journal but it is counting unique titles. ON TV Was that the Bissell Library serving as a set for a recent broadcast of EPT3’s “Cinemania”? It certainly was! The program concerning “The Da Vinci Code” was filmed there.
