Chief Editor for World International Affairs Visits ACT Mr. Filios Stangos, chief editor for world international affairs for public television, was the guest speaker in the MBA Leadership Communication Skills class on November 10, 2006. Mr. Stangos, who was among the journalists who first reported on the Tsunami crisis in Sri Lanka in December 2004, shared with the MBA candidates best strategies used to handle media during crises. Presenting a crisis from the perspective of a journalist helped the audience realize the complexity of such a situation and the need for business to effectively communicate with the media. Among other things, he highlighted the need to treat media as allies, report facts accurately and not send conflicting messages, centralize decision-making, provide psychological support, and look for the “silver lining,” i.e. an opportunity to improve current state of affairs. 3rd MBA Forum “The MBA Student Forum” is a concept that was created in 2002 by TITAN Cement Company. Our stand attracted a number of visitors from various backgrounds who were interested in our MBA program. Other universities that were present included Drexel University, the London School of Economics, ALBA, University College London and ASTON business school. Money Show 2006 ACT will be participating in the Money Show again this December. The event will take place on Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel . ACT Instructors from the Business Division will make various presentations concerning “E-Business and its penetration into Greek Enterprises” in the Epidaurus II-III conference room. More specifically, Mr. Argyris Spyridis, E-Business Specialist and Adjunct Professor, will talk about “E-Modelling – The First Fifteen Minutes”, Mr. Akis Papagiannis, MBA Adjunct Professor, will present the “Digital Applications for Completed Management Operation Processes” and Mr. Kostas Klimis, Adjunct Professor, will speak about the “Electornic Banking for Enterprises”. Technology
is very much on one’s mind these days. A few weeks ago, I attended
the inaugural meeting of the Internet Governance Forum in Athens.
The meeting brought together over 1500 representatives of government,
IGOs,
industry, and global civil society to begin charting an international
system of internet governance to replace US oversight of ICANN
(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). I met with
several local
e-government practitioners and e-democracy activists, many of
whom expressed an interest in ACT. The next meeting of the IGF

| The Internationalization of Higher Education in Europe: Opportunities and Challenges for Greece Dr. Vlachos recently attended a very interesting two-day seminar on “The Internationalization of Higher Education in Europe: Opportunities and Challenges for Greece”. The Field Trip Club visited the city of Trikala and also Kalabaka on November 4-5, 2006. A group of 35 students was able to walk around the old city walls of Trikala and across the river. Two monasteries of the Meteora area were visited, St. Stephanos & the Grand Meteoro. There the students were guided to the museums and the churches, enjoyed the amazing scenery of the Meteora rocks and learned about the monastic life and the history of the area. Study Abroad Students Travel to Athens, November 10-12, 2006 A group of 66 persons left on Friday November 10th for Athens. On Saturday morning and after a short tour of the center of Athens, they arrived at the Acropolis...(read more ) ACT Study Abroad Student Runs the Marathon ACT Study Abroad student Daniel Beckman runs the “Athens 2006 Marathon” along with his father. Daniel Beckman, a student in the Study Abroad program, participated in the”ATHENS 2006 Marathon” on November 5, 2006. The race started from Marathon and ended at the “Panathinaikon Stadium”, more than 42 km away. Daniel managed to reach the finish-line in 4:26:31 hours and placed 1621st among 2220 runners.The race was the only Marathon race in the world which is held on the original course which is also the course of the first modern Olympic Games (1896). It is worthwhile to mention also the fact that Daniel’s father –David, 56- ran the race too. |

They had a great time visiting interesting places and sites in Volos and the nearby villages in Pilio. Thanksgiving Dinner ACT’s Student Government Association (with the invaluable help of the U.S. Study Abroad students) organized a Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 23, 2006 in the Cafeteria of the New Building. We know many of you have been experiencing difficulties with the speed of the internet in recent weeks. As you know, we consider the integration of technology in the educational process at ACT to be critical. Therefore, we have continuously invested in upgrading our equipment and technology base to the latest standards available. Unfortunately, the best equipment and technology will do little when a bottleneck exists outside the school.
